China launches new HD Earth observation satellite

(07 Sep 2021) Rocket: Chang Zheng 4C; Payload: Gaofen-5 02; Date: 7 September 2021, 0301 UTC; Launch site: Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, China. The satellite was deployed into a Sun-synchronous 680 km x 692 km x 98.28 degrees orbit.

Gaofen-5's purpose is hyperspectral observation of Earth's environments to track environmental impacts, water quality, and atmospheric changes.

The satellite is based on the SAST3000 bus and carries seven instruments that can observe the spectrum from infrared to ultraviolet and measure atmospheric data in 15 different channels.
