US Space Force, SpaceX successfully launch classified satellite
(17 Apr 2022) Rocket: Falcon 9; Payload: NROL-85; Date: 17 April 2022, 1013 UTC; Launch site: Vandenberg Space Force Base, USA. The launch targeted a 1,024 km ×-1,220 km × 63.54 degrees orbit.
Such an orbit is used by a constellation of NRO satellites codenamed Intruder, part of a longer-running series known as the Naval Ocean Surveillance System (NOSS).
This was the second National Security Space Launch Falcon 9 launched from Vandenberg, and the sixth Falcon 9 NSSL launch to date.
The Falcon 9 reusable rocket booster returned safely to Landing Zone 4 after delivering the national security payload to orbit.
NROL-85 is NRO's second launch this year and the first time NRO has reused a rocket booster previously launched to space. The rocket booster core was first launched from VSFB only two months ago, and delivered the NROL-87 mission to orbit. NROL-85 is the 61st launch since NRO began publicly disclosing launches in December 1996.
