Launch of newest GLONASS-K2 navigation satellite next autumn

(27 Apr 2022) The new-generation GLONASS-K2 navigational satellite will be orbited this autumn, a source in the rocket and space industry was quoted as saying.

"The launch of the new GLONASS-K2 satellite is scheduled this September," the source said.

Earlier, a source in the country's rocket and space industry told TASS that Russia's next-generation GLONASS-K2 navigation satellite was likely to be launched in the second quarter of 2022. The satellite's manufacturer, the Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems Company, later said in its YouTube channel that the inaugural launch would take place in May.

GLONASS-K2 is the next-generation navigational satellite of Russia's GLONASS positioning system. In October 2020, GLONASS chief designer Sergey Karutin told TASS that GLONASS-K2 satellites would provide navigation precision of less than 30 centimeters.
