DBS 1 (DirecTV 1)

A spacecraft control processor (SCP) aboard the DBS-1 satellite failed on 4 July 1998. As designed, control of the satellite was automatically switched to the spare SCP and the spacecraft is operating normally.

DBS was replaced with DBS-1R, launched in October 1999.

DirecTV relocated DBS 1 from 101 to 110 degrees West, using the satellite for a package of services targeted to the U.S. Spanish-speaking population. In 2003, it was relocated to 101 degrees West in order to replace DirecTV 3.
