Hot Bird 2 suffered an anomaly in its power sub-system on 14 March 2007 as a result of a solar flare fallout. All broadcast clients formerly using Hotbird 2 were transferred to Hotbird 8.
The transfer, which implies no change in reception parameters for DTH homes and cable operators, was carried out as a precautionary measure, according to Eutelsat.
Although the satellite is fully functional, traffic likely will not be transferred back to Hot Bird 2 until after the eclipse period in autumn 2007 as a precautionary measure.
Hotbird 2 suffered a temporary black-out on 21 March 2000. Service was restored after nine hours. During the outage, the satellite went into safe mode as planned.
The reason for the anomaly is unknown; however some suggestions linked it to a problem several satellites have with leaking thrusters supplied by (the former) DaimlerChrysler Aerospace.
